Sweet Trash: A Softer World is a cozy VIRTUAL retreat where we'll turn a notebook into a refuge, a playground, a soft place to land.
It starts as a humble composition notebook (or any book you've got handy) but by the end, it’s something else entirely
✨ A bit of quiet in all the noise
✨ A self-made glitch in the matrix
✨ A portal to a world of your own making
✨ A pocket of tenderness
✨ A space for all your parts
You don’t need to be good at art. You don't need to be an immaculate planner. You don't need to treat journaling like it's a full time job. You just need a desire for some whimsy and ease, and sliver of willingness to make space for it.
The world of art journaling seems to have become more about the techniques, the pretty paintings, the lovely things made for the gaze of others. It's stopped being about YOU. There's less and less room for YOUR thoughts, YOUR feelings, YOUR life documentation. It's all products and end products, and somewhere in all of that commodification of what used to be a super soft place to land, this has now become, for some of us, a chore.
It's become PERFORMATIVE.
I want us to circle back to when this was just a thing we did in the privacy of our own kitchen's or dens or bedrooms. I want us to remember who we're doing this for (OURSELVES). I want us to CENTER ourselves in this practice so it reflects us. I don't want us in there duplicating what other artists are doing or trying to make pages that will look good in an Instagram Reel.
I want us to get trashy. I want us to get REAL.
So, I made this for us to that end, and it's now available with instant access and nothing to attend live (though we WILL be having the occasional live on Zoom SMASH PARTY).
I’m not an artist / I’m not creative / I’m too messy / I’m too tired.
Perfect. Come exactly as you are. There’s no wrong way to make a softer world.
Is this a journaling class? A planner? What even is this?
It’s a weekend to play, decorate, experiment, and set up a journal that’s part planner, part scrapbook, part secret hideout. It’s yours to define—and you’ll get lots of guidance and examples to help shape it your way.
What Do I Need To Bring?
You don’t need much—this isn’t about having the “right” stuff.
It’s about using what you already have.
Here’s what I’ll be using:
A simple composition notebook (any kind will do!)
Gesso and/or watercolor ground
Glue stick or tape
Scissors, pens, markers
Whatever scraps or bits feel like they belong: washi tape, painted papers, printables (optional).
Whatever is laying around my studio. Whatever you bring, I can tell you how to use it.
✨ I’ll show you how to handle glossy covers, so no need to stress about having the perfect journal.
Also have your usual craft/art supplies handy + gesso and/or watercolour ground.
